Transformation of a small derelict cottage into a stunning 4 bedroom family home. Project Summary

Existing Building.

The existing building was the West gate house to the (now demolished) Baldovan House and Estate. Early discussions with the Planning Department established that an extension to the listed property might be possible providing that any addition should be secondary in size and scale to the existing house.

Design Proposals

Our concept for the project was based upon the idea of mirroring the mass of the existing house with a new extension and renovating the existing house to a high standard. Traditional materials (such as slate and white render) helped to anchor the extension to the existing house whilst using them in a modern way meant that the extension did not compete.

Finished Design

The realised design is a modern reinterpretation and renovation of the existing house. The extension provides much needed extra living accommodation whilst providing a natural division for the private spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms within the existing house. It was important that the extension was a contrast to the house and that internally this should continue with new elements contrasting with the existing features.

A further garage extension with guest accommodation over provides a bedroom with ensuite facilities and parking for 2 cars.

The finished design has transformed a small derelict cottage into a stunning 4 bedroom family home with garage/ annex and represents, for our client, excellent value in terms of expenditure/ capital growth.
